Thanks, very useful. Only one suggestion: next time you must use a white t-shirt so the movement that you apply on the knife will be easier to see.

hehe he said vertically when he was holding it horizontally. I know, just a silly mistake, I’m not taking the piss, I’m just pointing it out. And thank you for the video, I’ve been wanting to know how to hone blades for a while now.

I’ve made dull blades sharp with a steel – including a 18” machete. I think you can do more with a steel than you give credit…

I realy do not agree with the number of strokes. Who am I…right. I undrstand but you should storke in increments of one. Once on one side and then once on the other. I use this method throughout the entire process. Opinions are like azz holes.. like I said… I understand

The way I was taught. A steel is for cleaning the blade a hone (steel w/ diamonds) is for sharping and I hold the steel pointing up and pull the blade down the steel and side to side gives me more control and a better feel for the blade. I have used a strap ( leather strap ) to clean a blade after sharping. I have had the same set of knives for 20 years. I have only sharpened them once!!!! I use the steel to keep the edege clean and sharp without removing meatal from the knife blade.
